2009 IIHF World Junior Hockey ChampionshipsThe 2009 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships will be held in Ottawa later this year. This spectacular sporting event will take place from December 26, 2008 to January 5, 2009. We have marked it down on our calendar and we are getting really excited for the games to begin. PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT THIS EVENT HAS ALREADY TAKEN PLACE There will be a lot of details to be shared with you and we wouldn't want you to miss out on anything so we have to be completely honest - we can't promise to have the most up to date information. We strongly advise you to double check the Hockey Canada website. Here is the information that we have on the event so far: Dates: The preliminary games will be from December 26 - 31, 2008. The remainder of the games will be held from January 2 - 5, 2009. January 1st, 2009 is a day off. Location of Games: The games will be held at Scotiabank Place and at the Ottawa Civic Centre. Tickets: As of January 2008, the ticket packages were sold out. There is still a way to get tickets though. There will be a "Ticket Marketplace" where fans who have already purchased a package can re-sell the tickets to games that they cannot attend. This marketplace will be the best place to buy tickets. There will also be some single-game tickets for non-Team Canada games made available closer to the event but none for the Team Canada games. The best way to keep up to date on upcoming ticket sales and other information is to sign up for the "2009 WJC Insider". Go to the Hockey Canada website (http://www.hockeycanada.ca/2/1/7/1/3/index1.shtml) and follow the instructions. You don't want to be disappointed so sign up early so you can get the news quick! Volunteer: Volunteer registration is now over but keep an eye on the Hockey Canada website in case any last minute openings come up. Keep in mind though that this is not the way to get in to see the games. They made it very clear on their website that volunteers can not expect to watch the games whether they are on or off duty without a ticket for that game. As soon as we know more about any other details, we will update our site.
