Canadian Museum
of Civilization

The Canadian Museum of Civilization is one of Ottawa's most popular tourist attractions. The museum is actually located in Gatineau but sits on the banks of the Ottawa River directly across from the Parliament Buildings. You can easily walk to it from downtown Ottawa.

The new location of the Canadian Museum of Civilization opened its doors on June 29, 1989 and has seen millions of visitors since then. It is one of our favourite places to bring our family and friends when they are visiting Ottawa. We even go on our own on occasion to see what new exhibits they have brought in.

The museum always has fascinating exhibits. Some of their exhibits are ongoing and some are brought in for a short period of time. They plan years in advance for these special exhibits so make sure you find some time to see them because they may never be back in Ottawa again.

One of favourite parts of the museum is the Children's Museum. Our children love it. We have been back every year and they are never disappointed. There is so much for them to do and so much to explore. We highly recommend it to all families.

The museum also houses the IMAX Theatre. The screen at the IMAX Theatre is seven stories high and the seats in the theatre tilt back so you get the best view possible. There have been so many exciting films over the years that included topics such as the Titanic, Antarctica, Kilimanjaro, Egypt and many more.
