Doors Open Ottawa
Doors Open Ottawa is an amazing event that is held each year in Ottawa. The first time it was
held here was in 2002. Since then over a hundred thousand people have participated in this
weekend long event.
This year it will be held from June 2 – 3, 2007 and like other years, it is FREE.
So, what is the event all about? We asked that very same question a few years ago when we
first heard about it. The event actually began in Europe and is now held worldwide. It is a huge
heritage event that allows visitors and residents of Ottawa to visit buildings in the city that you
may have either never seen before or were never allowed in before (perhaps an area that was
normally restricted). You can talk to the building owners and/or see some special exhibits.
Some buildings that have participated in recent years include:
- old churches
- universities
- museums
- boat/yacht clubs
- police stations
- embassies
- and many more exciting places.
What building in Ottawa do you want to see but have never been able to? We are hoping that
there will be some embassies again because we would love to see inside of some of them. One aspect
of this event that we love is that you can send an email and put your request in. Just email
doorsopen@ottawa.ca and let them know what building you would like to see.
A week prior to the event, the Ottawa Citizen will publish an Event Guide for Doors Open Ottawa.
Make sure to get your copy of the paper that weekend because you don't want to miss out on any
special instructions (i.e. you may need to pre-register for some buildings).
If you have a business that you would like to add to the event, just email doorsopen@ottawa.ca
and let them know.
Enjoy your day(s) out at this spectacular event in Ottawa.
