We know how important a good DJ can be for your big event. You could be hiring someone for your wedding or your retirement party or work party but whatever the reason, you want your DJ to listen to your needs and play to the style that you choose.
Here are a few tips that may help:
When choosing your Ottawa Disc Jockey make sure that you ask a lot of questions. You are going to rely a lot on them for your event and you want everything to run smoothly.
Here are some examples of questions you may want to ask him/her:
- Do you have backup equipment (speakers, microphones)?
- Do you have wireless microphones?
- What do you charge if we end up running later than expected?
- Can our guests make requests? If so, how? Do you have request cards?
- Do we need to provide dinner for you?
- Are you a member of the Better Business Bureau?
- Are you a member of the Canadian Disc Jockey Association?
- How will you be dressed on the night of the event?
Make sure you write down a list of songs that YOU want and at what time you want them to be played. Double check that they have the song that you want in their collection. A few friends that we know even brought a few of their own CDs with them to their own wedding just in case (i.e. what happens if it is your first dance at your wedding and your DJ can't locate his copy of your song)?
As with everything else for your event, make sure to get everything in writing. You will have to sign a contract so make sure that you read it over well and that nothing is missing. Write down what times you want a specific song played (i.e. what song do you want when you cut the cake)? Most DJs can make suggestions for you if you aren't sure what song you want to be played at a specific time of the evening (entrance, first dance, last dance etc).
When we did our search when we were planning our wedding we found most companies to be competitive in price and most offered very similar services. Make sure to meet with them first – you may meet with a few different ones before you make your choice.
