The amount of Ottawa Fundraisers seems to grow every year. We think some of the ideas that the local charities come up with are absolutely brilliant. There are, of course, the normal bike-a-thons & walk-a-thons but there are also some very creative fundraisers like riding your motorcycle or participating in an overnight relay.

You may want to participate in a fundraiser or you may prefer to get involved by buying a ticket to one of the Charity lotteries. Whatever you decide to do, applaud yourself for getting involved and helping out those in need in this great city.

Here are a few of the fundraisers in Ottawa:

Motorcycle Ride for Dad
Date for 2012 to be announced
This fundraiser raises money for Prostate cancer research and education. This is one of the most creative fundraisers that we have ever heard of. Picture thousands of men, women and children riding motorcycles on a designated route throughout the city. Prostate cancer is the #1 male cancer in Canada and can be a very sensitive issue to talk about.

CHEO Telethon
Date for 2012 to be announced
CJOH-TV, Rogers Ottawa, Bell ExpressVu 196 and Star Choice 311
This telethon raises money for the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario.

CHEO's Teddy Bear Picnic
Date for 2012 to be announced
Rideau Hall
We went for the first time a couple of years ago and our children loved it. We could have spent the entire day there. They loved the entertainment, the rides, the medical clinic for their teddy bears. It was an excellent way to spend a nice summer day.

CHEO Dream of a Lifetime Lottery
Tickets are $100 each or 3 for $250
Various prizes to be won include the beautiful CHEO dream home, cash, a car, groceries for a year and much more. Buy your tickets early.

Relay for Life
Different dates depending on location but generally held in June each year
Various locations around Ottawa
This 12-hour overnight relay raises money for cancer awareness and cancer research.

Terry Fox Run
Date for 2012 to be announced
The Terry Fox Run has raised over $300 million worldwide for cancer research. You can participate at various locations in Ottawa (downtown, Kanata, Orleans).

It is hard to list just a few of the Ottawa fundraisers because there are so many. If you want to get involved, check with the charity of your choice or check in the newspapers for upcoming events.
