Ottawa Senators

The Ottawa Senators returned to the NHL and to Ottawa in the 1992-1993 season. This made thousands of hockey fans delighted to know that we were going to have our own NHL team again.

The Ottawa Senators had been out of the league for almost 60 years (they used to play between 1901 and 1934).

If you make it to one of their home games you will see that the "Sens" (one of their nicknames) are popular with all age groups. The team mascot, Spartacat, loves to get the entire crowd going and the kids love him.

The Senators play at Scotiabank Place. It is located on Palladium Drive right off of the Queensway (417) in the West End. It is a 15-20 minute drive from downtown. Allow for extra time for weeknight games because you will also have to deal with some rush hour traffic.

Scotiabank Place (formerly known as the Corel Centre) is a fairly new facility that was built to accommodate the new Ottawa Senators team in the early 1990's. It offers a variety of restaurants, bars and snack concessions. There are plenty of places to go in between periods.

You have a few choices for transportation to Scotiabank Place:

  • you can drive your car and park in one of the 6500 parking spaces
  • you can take an OC Transpo bus
  • some bars around Ottawa and Gatineau offer shuttle service to the game
  • take a taxi

The ticket prices vary depending on what section of Scotiabank Place you are sitting in. The tickets are different each season but usually vary from approximately $20.00 per seat up to $300.00 per seat. There is even standing room available too! Tickets can be purchased at capitaltickets.ca or at the box office at Scotiabank Place.

The 2009-2010 season is already proving to be another great season. We are all hoping for a great result this year (perhaps the Stanley Cup)!

We have always enjoyed watching the Ottawa Senators play at Scotiabank Place. It isn't just the game though that makes it so much fun – it is also the atmosphere. The crowd gets loud and it is absolutely electrifying. It is a very entertaining night out.

So put on your Ottawa Senators hockey jersey and enjoy the game. Don't forget to cheer loudly! Go Sens Go!
