Are you in search of an Ottawa wedding cake for your special day? One of the many items on your to do list will probably be to find a baker or bakery in Ottawa to create a cake for your special day.

There are a lot of locations in Ottawa to buy your wedding cake and the styles, prices and service can vary drastically. You definitely want to shop around and ask family and friends for their recommendations.

Here are a few things to keep in mind or questions to ask when cake shopping:

• try to have a rough idea of how many guests you will want to feed

• try to have a general idea of what styles of cakes you like. You can cut pictures out of magazines or print pictures off of the internet.

• is the cake going to be used as the dessert or are you going to cut your cake later in the evening (this will affect how many pieces you need)?

• do any of your guests have any allergies (i.e. nut allergies)?

• is there a cake cutting service and/or fee at your reception location?

• does your baker deliver? Is there an extra charge for them to deliver and set up your cake?

• does your baker have cake toppers, tiers, cake cutters etc?

• can your baker supply references?

• how far in advance is your cake made?

• can you have a taste test (mmm…yummy)?

• does your baker supply flowers for the cake or cake table? If not, then you will want to ask your florist.

You can also get wedding cakes at your local grocery store. We have had some friends do this and the cakes were very good and the price was very reasonable.

Don't forget that you don't have to have a cake for your wedding. Some brides are choosing to use cupcakes or pies or no special dessert at all.
