Transportation in Ottawa

Are you looking for transportation in Ottawa or to Ottawa? If you are looking for a way to get here or a way to get around while you are here there are several options.

If you are flying into Ottawa then you will be flying into the Ottawa International Airport which is located at the end of the Airport Parkway. The Ottawa International Airport opened its new three level terminal in the fall of 2003. Some of the major airlines that fly in and out of here are Air Canada, United Airlines, American Airlines and Continental. The airport is approximately 20 minutes drive to downtown.

If you are taking a train into Ottawa then you will arrive at the Via Rail Canada Ottawa Station which is located on Tremblay Street just 5-10 minutes east of downtown.

If you are taking a bus to here then you will more than likely arrive at the Central Bus Station which is located on Catherine Street downtown.

Once you are in Ottawa you have quite a few options for getting around. There is a lot to do within walking distance but if you want to venture out farther than the downtown core you may want to rent a car. You can rent a car at one of the many Ottawa car rental agencies here. They have offices throughout the city including the airport. Some of the car rental places are known worldwide as in Enterprise, National, Alamo, Avis and Hertz.

If you don't want to rent a car you can also hire a taxi. There are numerous taxi cab companies that service the Ottawa area. Their prices are pretty similar. You can even find London Black Cabs in Ottawa now too. There aren't too many so they are hard to find.

You also have the option of calling a limousine company. There are many different companies to choose from.

If you want to use public transportation in Ottawa, the bus service is called OC Transpo. They service the entire area, including the neighbourhoods in the East, West and South ends of the city. The rates are very reasonable and if you are interested you can even get a day pass so you can use the bus as often as you want in the day. There are bus maps at the various bus stops throughout the city.

If you are going to be renting a car or bringing your own then getting a map of Ottawa in advance is a great idea. Here is one that we recommend:
