The Ottawa Senators returned to the NHL and to Ottawa in the 1992-1993 season. They had been out of the league for almost 60 years (they used to play between 1901 and 1934).
Bringing back an NHL team to Ottawa again made thousands of hockey fans extremely excited!!
If you make it to one of their home games you will see that the “Sens” (one of their nicknames) are popular with all age groups. The games are exciting and the crowd is energetic. The team mascot, Spartacat, loves to get the entire crowd going and the kids love him.
The Sens play at the Canadian Tire Centre. It is located on Palladium Drive right off of the Queensway (417) in the West End. It is about a 20 minute drive from downtown. Allow for extra time for weeknight games because you will also have to deal with some rush hour traffic.
The Canadian Tire Centre (formerly known as Scotiabank Place) was built to accommodate Ottawa’s new NHL team in the early 1990’s. It offers a variety of restaurants, bars and snack concessions. There are plenty of places to go in between periods.
You have a few choices for transportation to the Canadian Tire Centre:
- you can drive your car and park in one of the 6500+ parking spaces
- you can take an OC Transpo bus
- some bars around Ottawa and Gatineau offer shuttle service to the game
- take a taxi
- have a family member drive you (that is, of course if you live in the area)
The ticket prices vary depending on what section you are sitting in. The tickets are different each season but usually vary from approximately $20.00 per seat up to $300.00 per seat. There is even standing room available too! Tickets can be purchased at capitaltickets.ca or at the box office at Canadian Tire Centre.
The 2015-2016 NHL is well under way. Here is the most up to date Ottawa Senators 2015-2016 Schedule. It is proving to be another exciting season for the Sens!
We have always enjoyed watching the Ottawa Senators. It isn’t just the game though that makes it so much fun – it is also the atmosphere. The crowd gets loud and it is absolutely electrifying. It is a very entertaining night out.
